Chairmans Message. (Winter 2008 / 2009) Dear Walkers, Welcome to our winter programme. Many thanks to John and the Walks committee,and to everyone who has contributed to this interesting and varied programme. We are always looking for new leaders, so do talk to a member of the committee if you would like to get involved. We can give plenty of support to get started. Trevor Martin has worked hard to create a new website for us, with information and photos of our walks and holidays. If you Do Not want to appear in any of our website photos, please let Trevor know as soon as possible. Do have a look, and the website address is www.hinckleyramblers.org.uk John and Trevor held very successful map reading course in September. Many thanks to both of them. Watch out for the next one , if you missed it! Last years photograph competion and Quiz night was a hugh success, so we have again booked the St Francis Community Centre for February 7th. tickets are £2.50 each from Tony Smith or me. Doors will open at 7:00pm to view photos, and the quiz will start at 8:00pm with Tony Davies as our Quizmaster. If you wish to enter the photo competition,details and entry forms will be available from committe members. Categories will be British Countryside, Overseas, People, Wildlife, Plants and flowers. We would like to set up a Social Committee, to organise such events as the Slide Show, Christmas Dinner etc. If you would like to be involved, please let one of our committee members know, or join us at the AGM on Tuesday November 18th at 7:30pm Finally, dont forget to let me have details of any Sunday walks you lead, so that I can do a write up for the Hinckley Times, and the Website. Information Meeting Place- This is normally the Brunel Road Car Park Hinckley for Sunday walks unless otherwise stated .Saturday afternoon walk venues are printed on the programme.Pl ease contact the leader if you wish to arrange a lift. Transport-Our group encourages car sharing and walkers usually meet at Brunel Road.Drivers appreciate it when a voluntary contribution is made by passengers.It is suggested that .25pence per mile shared between the occupants of the car. Walks Information-All mileage shown are approximates.Some walks are graded A to indicate the degree of difficulty-Strenuous hill walking/difficult terrain will be encountered. Clothing-Walking Boots are highly recommended.Be prepared for bad weather. Lunch Arrangements-Walkers should bring a packed lunch and drink for the lenght of the walk.It is sometimes possible to call at a pub,but this is not guarranteed. Safety-Please co-operate with the Walk Leader and respect their decisions.Extra care should be taken when walking along or crossing roads. Dogs-It is regretted that dogs are not permitted on walks due to problems with stiles and farm livestock. Accidents-Any accident occurring on a walk,which requires a doctor,hospital or medical aid should be reported to the secretary or a member of the committee as soon as possible. Mobile Phones-Please be discreet in the use of mobile phones. Non Members-Visitors are very welcome to join the group for two or three walks.After this,they are expected to join the Ramblers Association. Deposits-Deposits for Coach/Rail walks,Holiday weekends and other Social Events are not refundable. Map Library-Maps are available from Jeff Smith for members use.Please ensure they are returned promptly. R.A.Subscriptions-Current charges can be made from the Membership Secretary. Mid Week Walks-Midweek walks are arranged informally usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays.Please contact Jeff Smith for more details. Pub Stops-Please cover muddy boots with bags and take them off.Do not consume your own food on pub premises without checking first. Discounts-Most outdoor shops offer a 10% discount on production of a valid Ramblers Association card.
