Chairman’s Message

Dear Walkers,

Welcome to our winter programme. As usual, John Sim and the Walks Committee have provided plenty of variety and interest. N.B.The Boxing Day walk traditionally includes a lunchtime pub stop, for approximately 45 mins. Please be aware of this, and bring some lunch. A big “thank you “ to our three new walks leaders. We are still short of leaders, so if you fancy ”having a go,” then talk to one of our committee members. We will give you plenty of help to get started. Our efforts to cut costs by asking members who had programmes posted to download them instead has been a huge success. We would now like to extend this to members who have programmes delivered, and ask everyone who has the facilities to download and print your next programme from the website, when it is ready, about mid-February, 2012. If you haven’t the facilities, or don’t feel confident, then don’t worry, we will continue delivering your programme. Contact Rita Gildroy and ask her to keep your name on the list for home deliveries. The Annual Dinner will be held at Ullesthorpe Court on Saturday 28th January. Price will be £20. As we are limited to 50 places, please give your names to Social Committee members Ann, Annette or Rita as soon as possible, to avoid disappointment. Our August Bank Holiday trip to Conwy was a great success, with excellent weather, and superb walking. Annette is in the process of investigating Tring in Hertfordshire for next Easter, so please let her know if you are interested. Don’t forget Hinckley Ramblers AGM, to be held at John Cleveland College at 7.30 p.m. on Monday November 28th. Do come, we are always glad to see you there. Finally, a huge thank you to everyone on our committee, and to all our members, for your continued help and support, in helping to make Hinckley Ramblers so lively and successful.

Best wishes to you all. Wendy Martin - Chairman. (wendytmartin@tiscali.co.uk)

Meeting Place- This is normally the Brunel Road Car Park Hinckley for Sunday walks unless otherwise stated. Saturday afternoon walk venues are printed on the programme.  please contact the leader if you wish to arrange a lift.
Transport-Our group encourages car sharing and members usually meet at Brunel Road. It is customary to share petrol costs for the journey. We have proposed that .25pence per mile shared between the occupants of the car this will reasonably cover the cost incurred by the driver.
Walks Information-All mileages shown are approximate. Some walks are graded A to indicate the degree of difficulty-Strenuous hill walking/difficult terrain will be encountered.
Clothing-Walking Boots are highly recommended. Be prepared for bad weather.
Lunch Arrangements-Walkers should bring a packed lunch and drink for the full day walk. It is sometimes possible to call at a pub, but this is not guaranteed.
Safety-.Whilst every care is taken by Walk Leader persons joining the walk are reminded that they are responsible for their own safety at all times. Please take extra care when walking along or crossing roads. All walkers should carry their own First Aid kit.
Dogs-It is regretted that dogs are not permitted on walks due to problems with stiles and farm livestock.

.Accidents-Any accident occurring on a walk, which requires a visit to a doctor or hospital, should be reported to the secretary or a committee member.
Mobile Phones-Please be discreet in the use of mobile phones
Membership-Walks are arranged for Members of the Ramblers Association. Visitors are welcome to join the group for two walks, after which they are expected to join the association Membership forms are available from committee members
Deposits-Deposits for Coach/Rail walks, Holiday weekends and other Social Events are not refundable.
Map Library-Maps are available from Jeff Smith (848551) for members use. Please ensure they are returned promptly.
R.A.Subscriptions-Current charges can be obtained from the Membership Secretary.
Mid Week Walks-Midweek walks are arranged informally usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please contact Jeff Smith for more details.
Pub Stops-Please cover muddy boots with bags or take them off. Do not consume your own food on pub premises without checking first.
Discounts-Most outdoor shops offer a 10% discount on production of a valid Ramblers Association card.
Leaders-Please appoint a back marker at the start of a walk; report any stile or footpath problems to the Footpath Secretary.
